Service was fine the restaurant was quite busy on this Friday evening. The bread served before our meal was wonderful with a nice hard crust and a soft chew. We had the crispy Brussel sprouts for starters and the broccoli salad, both of which were great fresh, innovative and flavorful. The vibe inside is open, noisy and a bit hectic in a fun way, with large wooden tables, metal chairs and an inviting bar in the middle of the restaurant There is an upstairs seating area that looked architecturally interesting. Wood Stack occupies a fun, bright, open, modern space in a clean looking brick building. Also, they do accept reservations and for dinner it’s recommended. A small thing but I believe it was just growing pains. The lunchtime crowd was in and it became quite busy. As I was ready to leave I had to flag someone down to get my check and pay. I’m rating it 5 stars for food, staff friendliness, and ambiance with a minus one for being new. The pizza came out hot from the oven and was perfectly done and crisp. I also ordered a draft stout which was great and received some bread made on premises as an appetizer. They have a nice selection and other items as well. I ordered a Margherita pizza, personal sized, from the menu. ![]() The restaurant is open and inviting with two levels and the bar on the first floor right as you walk in. The owners had run a fine Italian restaurant and bar in Metuchen and decided to change operations to a new location with a different twist. I walked in shortly before the lunchtime rush on purpose so I could get some critical information from the bartender on the place. The owners are seasoned restaurant professionals and did a great job converting what had been a vacant bank building into a pizza kitchen and bar. I had been waiting for this restaurant to open and finally got a chance to try it 5 weeks after it’s opening date.
